This manual (TM-1042, dated Dec-74) is written for the John Deere JD24 skid-steer loader, a 1700-pound-capacity, self-propelled, four-wheel-drive loader built for material handling in tight spaces. It was offered with two engine choices: a 4-cylinder gasoline engine (37 flywheel hp at 2400 rpm, 154 cu in) or a John Deere 3-cylinder diesel (37 flywheel hp at 2500 rpm, 152 cu in), and this manual covers both in full.
Drive comes through a gearbox that transmits engine power to multi-disk clutch packs (11 wear surfaces, roller-cam actuated) and a hydraulic variable drive sheave, giving 0-7 mph on gasoline or 0-6 mph on diesel, in either direction, with a 360-degree turning radius in its own length. The hydraulic system runs an 18 gpm gear pump at 1750 psi through dual-pedal, double hydraulic controls.
The serial number plate is located on the right-hand side, inside the frame under the boom pivot. This is a vintage factory manual reproduced from the original 1974 printing.
