Description

What's Covered in This Manual

This is the Diagnosis and Tests manual (TM1862) for the John Deere 4710 self-propelled sprayer - and the serial number cutoff matters here: this edition covers machines built before serial number 004000. Sprayers from serial 004001 onward are covered by a separate Repair manual, TM1861, which is not included in this listing.

A self-propelled sprayer has a lot more going on electronically than most farm equipment, and this manual reflects that: after general machine information and fault codes, there's an entire section of observed symptoms broken out by system - engine, fuel/air, electrical, power train, brakes, hydraulics, suspension and tread adjust, steering, operator station, the solution (spray) system, and the foam marker. The electrical diagnostics section alone covers well over fifty individual sub-systems, from boom raise/lower and leveling circuits (separately for 60 ft and 80/90 ft booms) to the GreenStar display, StarFire GPS receiver, and FieldDoc data card diagnostics.

Past the electrical diagnostics, the manual works through dedicated diagnosis-and-test sections for the engine, fuel and air system, power train, brakes, hydraulics, suspension/tread adjust, steering, operator station, solution system, and foam marker, closing with dealer-fabricated tool drawings. At 1,376 pages, this is the most detailed diagnostic manual in this batch, and it needs to be - between the boom controls, GPS guidance and the base machine itself, there's simply more to troubleshoot on a sprayer this size.
