This is the Technical Manual (TM-1181) for the John Deere 4040 and 4240 tractors, and despite the title on the uploaded file, this is a complete repair manual for the whole tractor - not an engine-only document. The 4040 produces 90 factory-observed PTO horsepower and the 4240 produces 110, each from its own 6-cylinder, in-line, valve-in-head diesel engine (404 cubic inches for the 4040, 466 cubic inches for the 4240), and the manual's content spans several printings from September 1977 through June 1980 as the model line was updated.
