This is the original factory Service Manual (SM-2033) for the John Deere 1010 Series tractor, copyrighted 1961 with later printings updated through December 1963. John Deere offered the 1010 in four distinct body configurations within this manual: the Row-Crop Utility (RU), the Special Row-Crop Utility (RUS), the Row-Crop (R), and the Grove and Orchard (O) version built specifically for the tight clearances of groves, orchards, and vineyards.
Both gasoline and diesel engine options are covered in full, each with its own dedicated section since the fuel delivery systems differ substantially - the diesel version is a vertical, 4-cylinder, valve-in-head engine with fuel injection and four glow plugs to aid cold starting, extending into the combustion chamber's turbulence chambers for reliable starts in cold weather. The gasoline version is covered with its own basic engine and fuel system sections.
Beyond the engine, the manual covers periodic lubrication, engine tune-up and tractor adjustment, the engine clutch, transmission and differential, the optional hydraulic system and 3-point hitch, wheels, tires and weights, sheet metal, and seats. For anyone restoring or maintaining a 1010 Series tractor in any of its four body configurations or either engine type, this manual provides the complete original factory specifications and procedures needed to keep it running correctly.
